So today I’m going to talk about something that has been on my mind for a bit, but I didn’t know how to really share my message. For those who don’t know, I am anaphylactic to peanuts and all nuts. I have had this allergy as long as I can remember, and it has been super difficult living my daily life with this allergy. What makes it harder is that my allergy is air borne, meaning if I smell it, I can also go into shock.
As I’ve been getting interested in makeup, I found it has been really difficult reading labels and such. Some makeup doesn’t even have labels, so that’s a right off for me! On top of that, it is also a challenge trying to distinguish what is a nut and what isn’t, especially when the names are so long and complex!
I don’t want this post to sound rude and I don’t want to come off the wrong way. I definitely can wear a lot of makeup, I just have to be careful. But a few days ago, I was reading the labels to some of the foundations I currently own, and I looked up one of the ingredients again and I was definitely surprised to learn that they contained Arachidyl Behenate, which is peanut derived. I was shocked! I thought I read the ingredients so carefully the first time!
It was definitely my fault for reading past this when I initially got these products, there is no doubt about that. I am definitely in the wrong. This post is just to show and help those who are reading labels to know that these products have this allergen in them. Now, when I tried these products, I did not get an allergic reaction from them–perhaps the protein from the peanuts was taken out, but there is no way I am risking my life again with these products unless someone tells me otherwise that they are safe!
I’m also not trying to bash any companies that use these products (although it would be nice if they didn’t..hehe). I just want to tell you all how it is, and I don’t want to sugar coat my opinion. Some of these products actually work great, and I would recommend them if you aren’t allergic to peanuts.
I’m super disappointed that a brand I love has this ingredient in a lot of their products, and it is unfortunate that there are so many makeup products I can’t try just because of my allergy.
But to make a negative into a positive, I hope this helps some of you if you have peanut allergies! And I hope you are all more careful than I was aha!
Talk to you soon!
